![]() Cuba Avenue church of Christ Small Group Ministry
A couple of years ago a congregational meeting was held and the leadership indicated its desire to embark upon an exciting new ministry with small groups. Much prayer, research and consideration has gone into small groups. Recent studies from several Christian universities evaluating church growth have shown that churches with small groups are growing spiritually as well as numerically. All the Elders and Deacons and Ministers at Cuba Avenue unanimously support this ministry.
The objective of having small groups is to promote fellowship and participation so that members may bond closer together with one another and be accountable to one another with regard to their spiritual lives. Also, the objective is to spend time studying the Bible together and growing to a greater level of spiritual maturity. Lastly, small groups are an effective way for everyone in the congregation to invite a friend to their small group so as to get to know them in a less formal and less threatening atmosphere.
The research is right when it says that people come into a relationship with the Lord when a friend helps them along and encourages them to do so. We want to be that friend! There is no better way of being a friend then to invite people to your home and into your life where you and like-minded people share with them the love of God and hope that you have.
The mission and purpose of the small groups' ministry at Cuba Avenue is to provide:
An environment and atmosphere conducive to the successful promotion and practice of close fellowship, and intimate involvement with one another.
Opportunities for effective study and application of God's inspired Word.
Personal accountability for our own individual spiritual growth in Christ Jesus and maturity in the faith.
To be, perhaps most importantly, an evangelistic outreach to our non-Christian and uncommitted friends and family so as to help bring them to a point of conviction and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Small groups are meeting at members' homes on Sunday evenings in lieu of Sunday evening services. There is, however, a traditional Sunday evening service, at the building, for those preferring that worship format and for travelers who do not know of the Groups. All you need do is visit the different groups listed below to decide the group you wish to become identified with, and enjoy various fellowship fun!
The Cuba Avenue church of Christ's Small Groups are also known as "Growth Groups." The name signifies the goal of growth spiritually, growth in community and growth numerically. Each group is different in composition, leadership style, study style and topic. Even though the groups are different they are the same because they devote equal amounts of time to study, prayer, and fellowship. Small Groups (Growth Groups) are about developing close personal relationships inside a large church. They are about developing accountability to and care for each other. Small Groups (Growth Groups) are about growth in every way. Visit several groups and see where you are most comfortable. Come be a part of Cuba Avenue's growth.

"They were continually devoting themselves to apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to breaking of bread and to prayer... And all those who had believed were together, and had all things in common... And, day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. And, the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." Acts 2:42-47
